History of the Crescendo Elite Clarinet & Saxophone Academy

Crescendo Elite Clarinet and Saxophone Academy was established in 2012 as part of Dr. Qian's community service as a university faculty member.  It was called the Cyber Single Reed Academy.     It started with only two students who were remotely taught via the Internet. As a result, one became the first chair in the 2017 Texas Music Educators Association’s 6A All-State Symphonic Band. The other was the Grand Prize winner of the Minnesota Orchestra’s Young Artist Concerto Competition, performing with the Minnesota Orchestra and on NPR’s “From the Top” radio show.

In 2020, after 13 years as a successful full-time college professor, Dr. Qian moved to Highland Village, Texas, where he has been giving clarinet lessons, saxophone lessons, and masterclasses at all levels, both live and online. The Academy has since expanded to a full-time private teaching studio. It has produced many successful first chair students from Allen, Plano, Frisco, Denton, and Lewisville school districts in the Dallas area and other parts of the United States, and many other countries. In the past five years, his top students were appointed as the principal clarinet of the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra Wind Ensemble; principal bass clarinet of the GDYO Symphony Orchestra, the principal Eb player for the Texas All-State 6A Symphonic Band, and the Co-Principal Clarinet of the Texas All-State 5A Symphonic Band. Many of them also performed in San Antonio for the TMEA annual conference. Two saxophone students were accepted into the University of Texas, Austin, and University of North Texas as music majors. Another student won the third prize in the 2021 Clareidoscope Clarinet Competition ( High School Division) hosted by the International Clarinet Association.

The Academy will continue to provide premier music education to support students' needs and music programs in the area and around the world.
