Dr. Jun Qian
University Teaching and Academic Career
Before establishing his Academy, Dr. Qian served for over thirteen years as a full-time clarinet professor at Baylor University and St. Olaf College, where he trained some of the most accomplished collegiate clarinetists of the past two decades. Under his mentorship, students captured both Grand Prizes in the International Clarinet Association’s Orchestral Excerpts Competitions (2015 & 2016) — a rare consecutive triumph that underscored the rigor and creativity of his teaching.
He has also taught at Nazareth College, Houghton College, SUNY Fredonia, the Eastman School of Music (music theory), the Shanghai Conservatory of Music (chamber music), and the Round Top International Music Festival. Dr. Qian’s master classes across France, Italy, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, Taiwan, Canada, China, and the United States have inspired hundreds of students and teachers worldwide.
Respected by his peers, he has received outstanding external reviews from leaders within the International Clarinet Association for his scholarship, pedagogy, and cross-cultural contributions.
