Recording Projects — East Meets West

Dr. Qian’s celebrated recording series, “East Meets West” (Albany Records), explores the confluence of Chinese cultural aesthetics and Western concert tradition. Featuring commissioned works by Chen Yi, Zhou Long, Shih-Hui Chen, Justin Merritt, and Bright Sheng, the series highlights Qian’s tonal flexibility and interpretive imagination.

The Clarinet magazine praised his performances as “beautifully executed … linking two fertile musical cultures” and lauded his “superb ability as a musician.”

His earlier releases, Première Rhapsodie (1998) and the instructional DVD Playing the Clarinet (2004) (Nanjing Shine Horn Label), remain staples in clarinet pedagogy. He also served as music producer and soloist for Steven Leitz’s The Complete Musician (2nd Edition, Oxford University Press).
